Are you getting ready for the big snowstorm — or is it balmy and nice where you live? For us, the weatherman is predicting 6 to 10 inches, plus drifting. Sounds like a great night to snuggle down with pizza and a movie, assuming the power doesn’t go out.
Major Blog Changes
January was a month of major and minor changes for Let’s play math! blog. My biggest change was moving my blogroll to a separate page. This move gave me enough room to comment on several of my favorite blogs, and I hope to add more notes over the next few months.
It also freed up space in my sidebar for my new Blog parties for teachers widget. (Scroll down to see it.) I was getting frustrated posting little blurbs every time a new blog carnival came out, only to see the posts become outdated within a week — those announcements were threatening to outnumber my on-topic blog posts. Aargh! Now I can post the latest links where they are easy to find, without diluting my main-column articles.
I do my best to keep up with the most current education-related carnivals by browsing The Truth Laid Bear‘s UberCarnival page. But if you know of something I have missed — or if you want to make sure I don’t miss your carnival — my email information is on the About/Contact Denise page.
Minor Blog Changes
New header photo — my daughter has developed into a talented photographer, don’t you think?
The Handouts page has been updated to include The game of algebra.
Little things can make a big difference. I learned how to handle images using the “class” attribute, so there shouldn’t be any more text-ramming-into-the-photo problems. I haven’t had time to go back and fix all the old posts, but the new ones definitely look better. I also learned how to make pull-quotes, but I haven’t been able to get the nested list to work properly.
I also started exploring Flickr as a source of images to enhance my posts, thanks to Skelliewag‘s article, A Complete Guide to Finding and Using Incredible Flickr Images.
And I discovered a few new blogs, which have been added to my blogroll page:
- Jeka-Math
- Math Specialist
- Math Stories
The Mad Hatter’s Mad Math Blog- The Math Mojo Chronicles
- One Lesson At A Time
