Here’s one more quote from homeschooling guru Ruth Beechick. It applies to classroom teachers, too!
Everyone thinks it goes smoothly in everyone else’s house, and theirs is the only place that has problems.
I’ll let you in on a secret about teaching: there is no place in the world where it rolls along smoothly without problems. Only in articles and books can that happen.

You Can Teach Your Child Successfully (Grades 4-8)
This is a welcome reminder after a difficult day: kids didn’t get excited about the activities I thought would be fun, professional work is going badly and, suddenly, we end the day with one of them overnight in the hospital!
I probably won’t write a blog post for today. I guess it could be useful for other parents to see that this is real life, but I don’t see clearly anything specific worth sharing, and maybe don’t have the energy to find it.
Oh, my! I hope the young one is okay, and that you all get a bit of a respite over the weekend.
On bad days, I remind myself that kids are by nature resilient, and there’s really very little I can do to ruin them. As long as they know they are loved, and as long as I provide access to good books and other educational opportunities, they will grow and learn in spite of my failings.
