Young children like to play with blocks and build creative things. By the time they are in high school, we tend to think students should be able to understand math relationships based purely on abstract numbers and symbols.
But the block play in this video is perfect for high school, because it demonstrated a surprising conncection between square numbers and cubes. By making this physical, we give students a chance to bring their creativity and intuition into play as they try to understand what is happening.
